Volks Chronicles #2: Suggestions from the VWCP

As previously mentioned, the Volkswagen Club of the Philippines (vwcp.org) is probably the most trustworthy and reliable resource when it comes to anything related to Volkswagens. I personally know two members of this club, namely Kuya Eric (from whom I bought Mo, the Volkswagen Beetle) and Kuya Clark.

There’s an “it’s a small world after all” story to how I met Kuya Clark, and it all started with a Kharmann Ghia. When I found Mo posted for sale at the VWCP forums, I asked Rem and Mabie to come with me to check it out. A conversation about said Kharmann Ghia led Rem to ask if the “Clark” to which Kuya Eric was referring was the same Clark she worked with during her practicum-er days. As it turned out, it was.

Anyway, Kuya Clark has since given me bits of advice, which I will share here.

Registration Renewal vs. Transfer of Ownership
As I’ve indicated in my previous Volks Chronicles, one of my biggest woes is the Paper Problem. I explained the problem to the people at the forums. I bought Mo as is, with an expired registration. The last registration was 2007 and the previous, previous owner had lost the original certificate of registration (CR) so all I had was an open deed of sale, a 2007 official receipt (OR), and an affidavit of loss for the CR. Upon further research, I learned that my car’s main file was located in Quezon province, hence I’d need to get my ass there as well to get a PNP clearance. I’ve asked several documentation companies and most of them quoted me somewhere between 15 to 17000 pesos for fixing both the transfer and the renewal.

According to Kuya Clark, I don’t have to do both at the same time:

Hi there Rio! It's nice that you registered here sa VWCP. You will learn a lot from this site, like simple trouble shooting, parts replacement etc. It's also good to know that Nards gave you discount sa mga parts.

About your registration problem first alamin mo muna alin ang immediate need mo sa dalawa.

1. Car Registration. The car will be officially registered and you can use it daily. You can always bring the deed of sale with you (or even a copy of it). You will need the OR of the last registration to do this, plus the necessary requirements such as emission test result and car insurance.

2. Transfer of Ownership. You can do this anytime you want. But first you need to have your car registered. You can also have this done with your car registration. But this will take time, given that you need to travel to Quezon province to process the papers there.

In my experience, I registered the Bacchus first, used it for a year before processing the transfer of ownership.

I had someone assist me in processing the papers. Kaso dito sa Batangas yun e.

You can ask Nards if may kakilala siya. Ang alam ko meron yang kakilala for sure.

keep buggin'!
keep the bug bite itchy!
